Uranus and Neptune Signs: Find Yours by Birth Date, 1900 to 2100

Find your Uranus and Neptune sign by birth date with exact entry and retrograde-dip dates, why Uranus stays 6 to 8 years in a sign and Neptune about 14, and the ages of their milestones.

Title card for a guide to Uranus and Neptune signs by birth date showing 7 years per Uranus sign and 14 per Neptune sign

Your Uranus sign and Neptune sign come from your birth date: Uranus stays in a sign for about 7 years and Neptune for about 14, so everyone born in the same few years shares them. Right now Uranus is in Gemini (since April 25, 2026, until May 22, 2033) and Neptune is in Aries (since January 26, 2026, until March 2039).

Key takeaways

  • Uranus takes 84 years to circle the zodiac and spends 6.2 to 8.0 years in each sign. Neptune takes 164.8 years and spends 13.1 to 14.0 years in each sign. Both are called generational planets.
  • Both planets dip back into the previous sign for a few months each time they change sign, so the exact date matters for birthdays near a change. The tables below list the first entry, the dip and the final entry in US Eastern time.
  • Uranus is in Gemini from 2026 to 2033. Neptune entered Aries on March 30, 2025, dipped back into Pisces on October 22, 2025 and entered Aries for good on January 26, 2026.
  • Of 85.4 million US births from 1994 to 2014, 64.9% have Neptune in Aquarius, and 37.1% have Uranus in Pisces, 35.5% in Aquarius and 18.9% in Aries.
  • Uranus makes its square at about age 22 and its opposition at about 42, and Neptune’s square comes at 40 and its opposition at 81 to 82. Generational readings are an astrological tradition, offered for reflection, not as prediction or advice.

Where Uranus and Neptune are now

Uranus entered Gemini for the first time on July 7, 2025, moved back into Taurus on November 7, 2025, and entered Gemini for good on April 25, 2026. It first enters Cancer on August 3, 2032, dips back into Gemini on December 12, 2032 and leaves Gemini for good on May 22, 2033 (see the dip table). Neptune is in Aries after the same kind of back-and-forth: it entered Aries on March 30, 2025, slipped back into Pisces on October 22, 2025 and crossed into Aries for good on January 26, 2026. It stays there until 2038, first entering Taurus on May 21, 2038 and finally leaving on March 23, 2039. Pluto, the third generational planet, is in Aquarius until 2044; our guide to Pluto in Aquarius has its dates. All times in this guide are US Eastern, calculated with the Swiss Ephemeris, the reference behind professional astrology software.

Find your birth date in the “From” and “To” columns. “From” is the first time Uranus enters the sign and “To” is the first time it leaves for the next one. If your birthday falls in the 9 to 12 months after “To,” the planet may have dipped back into the earlier sign, so check the dip table below.

The retrograde dips: exact dates

Seen from Earth, every planet sometimes appears to move backward. For Uranus and Neptune the backward stretch happens each year, so when a planet is close to a sign boundary it can cross, dip back and cross again. During the dip, the sign for anyone born in the window is the earlier one. The windows below list when the planet moved back and when it finally entered the new sign, so you can tell which sign you have if you were born in them:

One example from the table: someone born on August 1, 1998 has Neptune in Aquarius, because it entered Aquarius for the first time on January 28, 1998, dipped back into Capricorn on August 22, 1998 and re-entered Aquarius on November 27, 1998; someone born on October 1, 1998 has Neptune in Capricorn. Our own Stellium Calculator and Birth Chart calculator show your exact positions and handle these boundary dates for you.

Why Uranus and Neptune change sign at different speeds

Uranus has a sidereal orbit of 84.01 years and Neptune 164.79 years, according to NASA’s planetary fact sheets, so Neptune spends about twice as long in each sign. The stay is not the same in every sign, because orbits are ovals, not circles, and a planet moves faster when it is closer to the Sun. Uranus’s orbit has an eccentricity of 0.0469, with its distance from the Sun ranging from 18.6 AU at perihelion to 19.7 AU at aphelion, and in our calculation that shows up as a pattern: Averaged over its visits from 1912 to 2095, Uranus spends 6.2 years in Leo and Scorpio and about 6.5 in Virgo and Libra, but 7.5 to 7.7 in Pisces, Aries and Aquarius. Neptune’s orbit is almost circular (eccentricity 0.0097), so its stays vary only from 13.1 to 14.0 years.

Bar chart of the average years Uranus spends in each zodiac sign, about 6.2 in Leo and Scorpio and 7.7 in Aquarius

The same logic explains why two people born seven years apart usually have Uranus in neighbouring signs, but not always: a seven-year gap can stay inside one sign during the slow stretch through Aquarius, Pisces and Aries.

What each Uranus and Neptune sign is traditionally read as

Astrologers read Uranus as the planet of change, independence and disruption, and Neptune as the planet of imagination, ideals and dissolving boundaries, and they read the sign as the style in which a whole generation expresses that. These are traditional associations, not measured traits, and neither planet was known to ancient astrologers, so there is no classical text for them. For the personal planets, see our guides to Venus and Mars; for the slower ones, Jupiter and Saturn.

Sign Uranus there is read as Neptune there is read as
Aries Individual courage, breaking away, new starts Idealism about the self, inspiration to act on a vision
Taurus Disruption of money, land and routines; new ways of earning Romanticising comfort, beauty and security
Gemini Rapid change in how people communicate and learn Blurred lines between fact and story, imaginative media
Cancer Shifts in home, family structure and belonging Idealised home and family, nostalgia, longing
Leo Individual self-expression, new kinds of celebrity Glamour, performance, the dream of being seen
Virgo Reinventing work, health and everyday systems Idealism about service, confusion about practical limits
Libra Changing ideas of partnership, fairness and the arts Idealised love and harmony, rose-coloured relationships
Scorpio Upheaval in power, secrets and shared resources Fascination with the hidden, mysticism, blurred trust
Sagittarius New beliefs, travel and ways of learning Spiritual searching, a faith in far horizons
Capricorn Restructuring institutions, careers and authority Dissolving old structures, ideals about ambition and duty
Aquarius Technology, networks and collective reform Visions of community, utopian and digital ideals
Pisces Sudden breakthroughs in spirituality, art and compassion Neptune at home: compassion, imagination, escapism

How many people share your sign

Because these planets move so slowly, everyone in your age group shares your signs. Using the Swiss Ephemeris for every date of the 85.4 million US births from 1994 to 2014 (CDC/NCHS and Social Security Administration data via FiveThirtyEight):

Planet Sign Share of US births 1994 to 2014
Uranus Pisces 37.1%
Uranus Aquarius 35.5%
Uranus Aries 18.9%
Uranus Capricorn 8.5%
Neptune Aquarius 64.9%
Neptune Capricorn 19.9%
Neptune Pisces 15.2%

So about two in three young Americans have Neptune in Aquarius, and nearly everyone born in those twenty-one years has Uranus in Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces or Aries. A sign shared by that many people can’t say anything about one person, which is why astrologers read these planets through the house they fall in and through aspects to your personal planets, as in our guide to the twelve houses.

Uranus and Neptune milestones by age

Astrologers also read the moments when Uranus or Neptune returns to a significant angle of its birth position. We calculated the age at which each happens for 46 birth years from 1900 to 1945:

Milestone Typical age Range
Uranus square (90° from birth position) 21.5 19.4 to 23.2
Uranus opposition (180°), the “Uranus opposition” or midlife 41.8 38.7 to 44.5
Uranus return (360°) about 84 one orbit is 84.01 years (NASA)
Neptune square 40.4 40.4 to 40.5
Neptune opposition 81.6 80.9 to 82.5

Uranus’s age varies by several years because of its uneven speed, while Neptune’s square is almost the same for everyone, 40.4 years. A Neptune return takes 164.8 years, longer than a lifetime. In the NASA Neptune fact page’s words:

“In 2011 Neptune completed its first 165-year orbit since its discovery in 1846.”

NASA Science, Neptune: Facts

Compare the other returns on this site: the Saturn return comes at 28.4 to 29.9 and the solar return yearly.

How Uranus and Neptune were found

Neither planet was known to ancient astrologers. According to NASA, Uranus was “discovered in 1781 by astronomer William Herschel,” who at first believed it was “either a comet or a star.” Neptune was found after mathematics predicted it: NASA credits Urbain Le Verrier, who “proposed the position and mass of a then-unknown planet” to explain changes in Uranus’s orbit, and Johann Gottfried Galle, who found Neptune at the Berlin Observatory on his first night of searching in 1846. That is why astrologers treat both as “modern” planets with no classical rulership; see our essential dignities guide for the planets that do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I find my Uranus sign?

Find your birth date in the Uranus table above. Uranus stays in a sign for 6 to 8 years, so most birth dates give an easy answer; if you were born within a year of a sign change, check the dip table, or use our Birth Chart or Stellium calculator.

What is my Neptune sign?

Look up your birth date in the Neptune table. Neptune spends 13 to 14 years in each sign, so people born within a decade and a half of each other usually share it. Of US births from 1994 to 2014, 64.9% have Neptune in Aquarius.

What sign is Uranus in right now?

Gemini. Uranus entered Gemini for good on April 25, 2026 and stays until May 22, 2033, after briefly entering it on July 7, 2025 and dipping back into Taurus on November 7, 2025.

What sign is Neptune in right now?

Aries. Neptune entered Aries for good on January 26, 2026 and stays until March 2039. It first entered Aries on March 30, 2025 and dipped back into Pisces from October 22, 2025.

How long does Uranus stay in each sign?

About 7 years on average. In our Swiss Ephemeris calculation a single stay runs from 6.2 years (Leo, Scorpio) to 8.0 years (Pisces, Aries, Aquarius). A full trip around the zodiac takes about 84 years.

How long does Neptune stay in each sign?

About 14 years: between 13.1 and 14.0 years in our calculation. Neptune takes 164.8 years to go around the zodiac once.

When is the Uranus opposition, and at what age?

Between ages 38.7 and 44.5, about 42 on average (41.8), in our calculation for people born from 1900 to 1945. The Uranus square comes at about 22, and Uranus completes a return at about 84.

Does the Uranus or Neptune sign describe my personality?

Not in the way your Sun or Moon sign is read. Everyone born within 7 or 14 years shares these signs, so astrologers read them as generational themes and look at the house and the aspects to your personal planets for anything individual. No controlled study has found that astrological signs predict personality or events.
